The Australian government has signed off on the launch of a fox farm.
Foxes are being allowed to roam freely across the country after a controversial ban, with the approval of the state’s prime minister, Bill Shorten.
But the controversial fox farm plan has faced resistance from farmers, who say it is a cruel way to turn the animals into meat and milk.
It has also been criticised for not being in line with the government’s animal welfare policy, which requires animals to be fed a balanced diet.
The farm plan, which has been approved by the Department of Environment and Heritage, is expected to start producing foxes in 2017 and will be one of the largest in Australia.
More to come.
